At JB Extreme Landscapes, building pump tracks is what we do best.

We combine precision design, expert earthworks and durable surfacing to create tracks that are fast, fun, and suitable for every rider — from complete beginners to elite athletes.

But before we dive into how we build them, let’s answer the question…

What Is a Pump Track?

A pump track is a continuous loop of smooth rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden using momentum rather than pedalling.

Riders “pump” their bodies up and down through the features to gain speed — it’s about flow, balance and rhythm rather than outright power.

Originally built for BMX and mountain bikes, today’s modern pump tracks are multi-use facilities that welcome:

  • Mountain bikes

  • BMX bikes

  • Scooters

  • Skateboards

  • Inline skates

  • Balance bikes for younger riders

They’re perfect for all ages and abilities, promoting fitness, confidence, and outdoor fun.

Why Pump Tracks Work

Pump tracks are one of the most inclusive forms of outdoor recreation. They can be enjoyed by almost anyone — from toddlers learning to balance to seasoned pros chasing speed.

Benefits include:

  • ✅ Encourages outdoor activity and healthy lifestyles

  • ✅ Low maintenance compared to traditional skateparks

  • ✅ Suitable for mixed-age and multi-skill use

  • ✅ Great for schools, councils, and community groups

  • ✅ Excellent tool for coaching and skill progression

  • ✅ Visually appealing and environmentally sympathetic

How We Build a Pump Track

Each track we build is unique — shaped by the site, the terrain, and the goals of the project.
Our process ensures a safe, durable and exciting riding experience every time.

1️⃣ Site Assessment & Design

We begin with a detailed survey and design phase to make the most of the available space.
Our computerised 3D models and layout plans ensure perfect flow, safe transitions and visual appeal.

2️⃣ Earthworks & Shaping

Using precision machinery and skilled operators, we form the rollers, berms and jump features with care.
Our team has years of hands-on experience shaping tracks that ride beautifully — smooth, consistent and fast.

3️⃣ Surfacing

Depending on your needs and budget, we offer a range of durable finishes:

  • Tarmac – for year-round use, minimal maintenance, and all-wheeled access.

  • Compacted stone or soil – for a natural, softer aesthetic and flexible shaping.

  • Hybrid finishes – combining both for different user zones.

4️⃣ Drainage & Detailing

Good drainage is key to a long-lasting pump track. We build in sub-base layers, drainage channels and edge stabilisation to ensure longevity and reliability — no puddles, no erosion.

5️⃣ Testing & Finishing

Every track is tested and ridden before handover. We check flow lines, transition consistency, and safety clearances so the finished product rides exactly as designed.

6️⃣ Landscaping & Handover

Once the track is built, we landscape the surrounding area — seeding, turfing or hydroseeding — to leave a professional, finished look that blends seamlessly with the environment.
Finally, we hand over the track ready for community use — or help you host a grand opening ceremony featuring our pro riders.
